Hi! My name is Alfredo and I come from Palermo, Italy.
Sailing has been a life companion for me ever since I was 8, when I started practicing competitively on dinghies. Upon realizing that I am not cut out for a regular office job, I abandoned my previous career plans (I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering) and I rediscovered my passion for the sport under a whole new perspective, as now I am as interested in traveling and living at sea as I am in racing.
I am a fully licenced instructor and i work at a sailing club in my hometown. While I love teaching and sharing my knowledge and passion with others, I also seek to spend more and more time offshore, to keep learning from other people's experience and step closer to the kind of life I envision for myself.
As of today the most significant cruising experiences consist of a delivery from Galicia to Palma de Mallorca (about 1000 nm, 6 days) as watchkeeper and deckhand/crew (I can provide a recommendation letter signed by the Captain), and 6 weeks as deckhand around the Mediterranean sea on a private yacht.
While I still have a lot to learn, I can garantee good will, kindness, humor and critical thinking when facing a problem.
Thanks to my background I have a pretty advanced technical understanding of sailing and a decent understanding of meteorology.
I consider myself responsible in my decision-making and I can be of help in heavy conditions.
I am not a particularly talented cook, but I hold my own in the galley and I am doing my best to broaden my repertoire.
Other than Italian and English, I am fluent in Spanish as well.
I never travel without a book, a pack of cards and a chess board.
