Hello! My name is Mike. I'm a self-employed bar/restaurant owner and working my way up to have enough to be a long term cruiser traveling and helping people along the way. Currently I captain charters in the Southern California area, and have been crew for Maasai racing for over 5 years. I've always been drawn to the humility and freedom that sailing offers, and it's been my dream to become a live-aboard sailor and embark on thrilling adventures. As I seek to broaden my horizons, I'm eagerly looking for opportunities to crew on different boats in different locations. Along the way learning from experienced sailors to gain invaluable knowledge that will help me become a better, safer captain for the future. I'm a positive, open minded person and I find it quite hard to not get along with almost anyone. I look forward to meeting new people in new places in the future. My long term goal is to have both locations dialed in enough to take off longterm on a sailboat with me and my girlfriend. I'm originally from Maryland and grew up on boats in the Chesapeake bay where we did lots of fishing. I since have lived in Southern California for many years and fell in love with sailing. Currently I captain private charters out to Catalina and up and down the coast. I also do boat deliveries and I'm part of a racing team out of SD bay. Experience with night watches, and also scuba certified. Fishing/Diving is also a hobby as well. My main interest is to get experience and learn. I have no problem getting my hands dirty and doing the jobs no one likes. All in the name of knowledge. I also enjoy helping others, its a great feeling to give to others that need as well. Passing knowledge down is something I believe is in our DNA so I hope to have enough knowledge one day to show someone else how to live life at sea.

My motivation to be crew is to learn, learn, learn. I can read all day and night about sailing (which I do haha) but until you get out there and put that into action there are limits. I love travel, I love new places, and I love adventure. I always come with a positive attitude and its hard to get me down. I get along with all walks of people and don't think its right to judge any book by its cover. No one is going to just give me this knowledge so I must go out and find it. I have spent many many hours building and working on all sorts of jobs so I can also be quite handy.
