Hello,
I’m Rob, a lover of wind, sail, and sea. My father taught me to dinghy sail from a very early age. Aged 19, I went to work for a very well known, residential sailing club in Devon for a season.
In my late 20’s I secured a volunteer job on a 40m Barquentine berthed under the Harbour Bridge and opposite the Opera house in Sydney’s Port Jackson. I was taken on for the annual dry dock and maintenance, but once complete I was offered a permanent post as a deckhand. Later I was made up to leading hand/AB and rescue boat coxswain. When I left to continue my travels, I was the ship’s bosun and carpenter.
Shortly afterwards I joined the crew of a large longliner out of Cairns, fishing off the Great Barrier Reef.
More recently, I successfully completed my RYA Day Skipper and RYA Yachtmaster(Coastal).
I have always had a true passion for being under sail on open waters.
I am a general builder by trade and am practical and skilled. I am young, fit, strong, healthy, fun 50yr old.
This Spring/Summer I travelled to Assens/Denmark to join a 187’ /63 mtr 1902, steel built Schooner(formally an Atlantic lightship, sunk during the British during WW||. She was later salvaged and modernised, being fitted out with a U-Boat diesel engine, which she still proudly has. I’m not an engine man, particularly but I have to admit. It is a wonder, and sounds incredible. I was employed as Bosun and was onboard for the Spring until her dad plans were finally revealed to me.
After leaving the ship with very mixed feelings I secured positions on various yachts sailing from Sicily and around the Ionian & Aegean islands before completing this latest adventure sailing around the Azores. 3 months in total but Brexit scuppered any further time within the E.U.
