Dear Shipmates

Introduction

I learned to sail when I was 11 years old. Sailed mainly on the coastal waters of The Netherlands as well as from Ushuaia to Antartica and back.
I know that the sea is a serious place. On board there is room for a jokes, but it is no space for clowns.
In my professional life I studied applied physics and worked as a reservoir engineer for Shell for 27 years where safety was always the top priority. I have been posted for 3 years in Argentina, 3 years in Syria, 5 years in the Philippines, 3 years in Malaysia and 4 years in Oman. Now time to see the world from the water side.

In the longer run I want to buy my own boat and start the off-grid, on board life style.

My motivation and reasons to crew on a boat

share experienceshare charter costsvisit remote placesseek adventurefulfill a dreamface challengesgain experiencelive off the gridtravel

The prime reason to crew on a boat rather than have my own boat is flexibility of destinations and a wider range of experiences it offers. Crewing allows to learn from different captains, different crews, different boats, different seas/oceans, etc. Crewing is much more financially efficient and therefore it's no problem to financially contribute.
