Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Hello fellow sailors! I'm a reasonably experienced crew looking to join a boat(s) for a trip around the world. I'm hoping to join a boat in the Caribbean this fall, heading West with plans to cross the Pacific in the winter/spring of 2026. I know my boarding location says anywhere, but that's because the other choices are to prohibitive. I'm looking to board a boat in North America, Central America, or the Caribbean.

My sailing experience includes coastal sailing in the San Juan Islands, participating as crew on the Baja-haha, racing with local yacht clubs, and cruising over 4,000 miles off-shore on a boat I co-owned. In 2020, we double-handed it from Grenada to Florida, then move it from Florida to Virginia, and back to Florida. I spent late summer and early fall of 2021, traveling and sailing around Europe. I was crew on a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40, through the Greek Islands. I also crewed on a 44' Dufour Nautitech Catamaran, around the Balearic Islands, then again for a beautiful passage from mainland Portugal to Porto Santo, then on to Madeira Island. I joined that boat again for a brief delivery from Grenada to Trinidad in 2022. Then I sailed from England to northern Spain on a 39' Najad, and then from Gibraltar to the Canary Islands and from there across the Atlantic Ocean to Martinique on a 44' Fountaine Pajot.

I have been working remotely for a few years now, and will continue to do that when I am crew on a boat, to help pay for expenses and maintain my home base. My work is flexible, but I still have deadlines that I must meet, so I have to make plans to cover my work if I will be away from cell/internet service. I have weekends off to explore, and during the week I enjoy participating in activities that can be squeezed into a few hours each morning or evening. I enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and am newly open water scuba dive certified. I enjoy throwing a fishing line out if boats are equipped with them and I want to improve my filet skills. Diving is a new love for me, and my preference going forward will be for boats that focus on diving during their travels.

I completed a diesel maintenance class, and have been able to help at least one person with their boat's engine. I hope that I will be able to continue to use these skill by helping with engine needs on boats that I join. I took a marine electric class, and while it helped me understand things better, I'm not as confident with it. I also took a Safety at Sea course.

My motivation and reasons to crew on a boat

share experiencevisit remote placesseek adventurefulfill a dreamgain experiencetravel

I crew on boats because of my love for the ocean and traveling. When I was told about people who travel around the world on the Ocean (cruisers), I suddenly knew that I was meant to do exactly that. Now that I'm an open water diver, I'm also motivated by the opportunity to find other sailors who love to dive, and join them exploring this amazing world above and below our gorgeous Ocean!
