Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Hey everyone!

I'm Oscar, a guy in his 20s who just bought a 2018 46 Nautitech with plans to sail it from French Polynesia to Australia. Looking to travel at a medium pace through Cook Islands, Niue, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Australia.

I'm inviting a friend of mine named Bernie on the trip, but we have 2 more rooms and honestly looking for crew for company, good vibes and to lend a helping hand. The trip is meant to take 6 months and we plan to stop on as many islands as we can along the way. We plan to be active by freediving, spearfishing, efoiling, surfing, kiteboarding and more!

A little help from ChatGPT and my inevntory list:

Overview and Design
The yacht is a modern, 13.79‑meter catamaran crafted by Nautitech Catamarans and designed by Marc Lombard. Built with a high‐performance GFRP Vinylester infused PVC/polyester foam sandwich construction for both hull and deck, she combines light displacement (10,800 kg light; 14,030 kg laden) with an innovative stub keel design that contributes to her stable yet agile handling. Registered in Lyttelton, New Zealand (Registration NZ 3066) and currently lying in Tahiti, French Polynesia, this vessel marries robust engineering with state‐of‐the‐art onboard technology.

Performance and Propulsion
Under power, the yacht is equipped with twin Volvo Penta diesel engines (circa 2018) that deliver efficient performance—about 9 knots on dual-engine operation, while a single engine runs at roughly 4.6 knots. With an economical fuel consumption rate of approximately 3 L per hour per engine at 2000rpm, her propulsion and drive system (saildrives with folding, 3-blade flexofold propellers) ensure a reliable and smooth transit. Her design also lends itself to excellent tracking in various sea conditions, combining performance with stability.

Onboard Amenities and Facilities
Inside, the vessel is thoughtfully appointed for comfort and function:

Accommodation: A well-planned layout features a double berth cabin and two additional crew cabins in the forepeaks, complemented by a drop-down saloon designed for socializing and relaxation.
Galley & Saloon: The galley is fully equipped with dual stainless steel sinks, Corian benchtops, refrigeration units, ovens, and modern cooking appliances (including both gas and portable induction options). A selection of small appliances—breadmaker, electric and gas kettles, toaster, blender, and handmixer—ensures convenience for extended voyages.
Cockpit and Navigation: The vessel’s bridge is outfitted with advanced instrumentation including a Fusion MS-AV755 chartplotter, dual B&G Zeus displays (one in the saloon and a wireless version at the starboard helm), a B&G NAIS radar, and a suite of wind and depth sensors. A B&G NAC-3 autopilot, coupled with state-of-the-art Simarine monitoring systems, provides seamless route control and vital tank/battery management.
Power and Energy Systems: An extensive electrical system comprises LiFePO4 batteries (800 Amp/hr x 4) and additional lead-acid batteries, supported by solar panels, a Scheppach portable generator, and inverters to keep all systems running smoothly even off-shore.
To elevate the onboard experience, a Starlink communications system has been integrated, ensuring reliable high-speed connectivity far from the marina. For the water sports enthusiasts, she now also carries an eFoil—a silent, electric hydrofoil board for thrilling, eco-friendly rides—and a kiteboard designed for versatile kite and board activities.

Safety and Equipment Considerations
Safety has been a paramount focus in the boats outfitting. Key features include:

Emergency Equipment: A fully serviced 12-person life raft, EPIRB, and a complete set of flares guarantee readiness in emergencies.
Fire Safety: Multiple dry powder fire extinguishers (6kg units in the cockpit and a smaller 1kg unit in cabins), along with a galley fire blanket, add to her fire-fighting capabilities.
Personal and Crew Safety: Life jackets, life rings, and a comprehensive array of mooring gear (including 4 mooring lines, stern-to-land lines, an anchor bridle, fenders, and additional safety lines) provide essential support when docking or during rough weather.
Additional Gear: Two folding bikes (with a baby seat) are onboard for both shore exploration and as a backup transport option, reinforcing the vessel’s versatility in safety and recreation.
Instrumentation and Navigation
The vessel is well-equipped to navigate both coastal and offshore waters with precision:

Navigation Systems: A suite of modern navigation instruments—including a depth sounder, log, radar, and integrated AIS/GPS systems—ensure that the skipper is well-informed.
Communication and Monitoring: With VHF radios at both helm stations and the enhanced connectivity provided by Starlink, staying connected and updated even in remote locations is straightforward.
Additional Controls: The vessel features two well-placed helms, each with its own engine hour displays and digital monitoring, ensuring that both pilot stations are fully equipped for safe maneuvering.
Final Thoughts
Combining classic design with modern amenities, the vessel stands out not only for its reliable performance and robust safety features but also for its readiness to embrace the latest in recreational technology. Whether cruising at 9 knots under dual-engine power or engaging in adrenaline-fueled activities with the onboard eFoil and kitboard, she offers an exceptional blend of performance, safety, and comfort. With its advanced instrumentation and Starlink connectivity, she is truly ready for both leisurely exploration and the demands of modern, connected sailing.
