I learned to sail on small lakes in Minnesota, then on large lakes in Minnesota (Lake Superior) and finally on the ocean. This year (2023) I purchased my first (large) sailboat, a 1997 Catalina 36 mkII. I spent the summer living aboard in Boston and making renovations to make it a home.

While sailing I enjoy board games, fun conversations, boring conversations, reading, troubleshooting, navigating (practicing traditional techniques even though I do have all of the modern electronics), eating, yoga and staring into the sea for long periods of time. Whatever you enjoy doing, you are welcome to do it aboard the boat as long as it's safe and respectful towards everyone onboard.

I've always enjoyed meeting new people on journeys. I love to stay in hostels when I travel, I've been involved with couch surfing for many years and I love to host travelers from around the world in my hometown. I bought this boat in part so that I have a permanent venue to interact with people while on a journey and also of course because I love sailing and being on the water.

I have studied and prepared for this trip extensively through ASA courses and other methods so I consider myself a competent skipper able to safely navigate this route. That said, this will be my biggest sailing adventure to date so I expect many lessons learned along the way and crew must be willing and eager to go with the flow. I can't promise "smooth sailing" but I can promise you'll be an active participant in a big adventure!

While not a luxurious yacht, this boat is very clean and comfortable. I have allergies so I spent significant time and effort not only cleaning the visible surfaces of the boat but also removing all the the furniture, cabinets and panels to clean the unseen areas as well. I'm proud to report that the boat looks, feels and smells clean and I have lived in it without allergy symptoms for over 3 months by now.

Sailing experience is more than welcome but not required. A genuine respect for safety, the others onboard, the boat and the environment are required. Also, the ability to safely get on and off the boat from a dock or dinghy are required. Unfortunately the boat is not wheelchair accessible. Other than that, anybody is welcome onboard and your skills and abilities will be utilized and appreciated!
