I'm originally from South Africa and have been living with my family in The Netherlands for close on 22 years now. More than four years ago I decided to retire and start to write the next chapter in my life. Back in South Africa I sailed dinghies competitively at provincial and national level for many years. Since relocating to Europe it was a case of sailing during summer holidays or the occasional Wednesday night racing in Almere.
I've completed the RYA Coastal Skipper course, SRC and Diesel Engine courses. In addition, I have my International Certificate of Competence (ICC).
For the moment I'm chartering whilst at the same time evaluating various sailboat brands with a view of acquiring my own sailboat possibly this year.
I enjoy sport and completed the Amsterdam marathon in 2022 with my youngest son. Furthermore, I enjoy scuba diving/snorkeling as well as golf. Travel and good food (eating and cooking!) are further interests of mine.
I consider sailing as "food" for the soul and believe there are many parallels to be drawn when it comes to navigating life as we know it!
