Dear Shipmates

Introduction

I shall be sailing my boat from Lagos, Portugal to Brighton, UK via the Canaries, Cabo Verde and the Azores Islands, calling at Santa Maria, San Miguel, S. Jorge, Faial and if possible more if time permits. I expect to leave in mid-April 2023, taking up to about 10 weeks altogether.

The boat is well equipped, including satellite navigation, two autopilots, solar and wind charging and a Volvo Penta 30HP engine. Facilities are available for receiving weather forecasts and sending brief emails of a safety nature only while on passage. Note there is no WiFi available except at ports of call. There are the usual safety features, including tender and 4-person 24hrs+ life-raft. Sails include two reefing genoas (one new), an almost new main and a new spare, both with two slab reefs. All sail handling can be done from the cockpit. The boat has made several Azores trips over the past 10 years.

There is also a full amateur radio installation on board and any UK or CEPT licenced amateur is welcome to use it (CW and SSB on all HF bands).

When at sea, crew will be expected to share watches, timings to be mutually agreed, however it is expected that an autopilot will be in use for most of these.

Main requirement is to have some experience of sailing in a medium sized yacht and to be prepared to take a fair share of watches. Some basic navigation experience is welcomed, e.g. where circumstances change during the course of a watch. There will be an opportunity to familiarise yourself with all on-board systems before departure.
