The boat is a 56 foot (17 metre) Bruce Roberts Ketch. She is a proven off-shore boat and we have done modifications to make it more comfortable as a “home” including installing a fridge, two freezers, a watermaker, solar panels, batteries, wind generator, radar and chart plotter, changed lighting to LED, had a new mainsail made. In 2024 we have replaced the anchor chain and upgrated the steering system and autopilot. We have NZ Cat 1 certification which covers a huge amount of safety equipment including EPIRB, Life Raft, Danbouy, AIS, jack lines, Drogue, SAT phone, VHF and much more. We have limited internet. Used for downloading weather and emergency emails.
We are pretty easy going and can sail the boat on our own. We are looking for crew to share in our adventures, not necessarily with some sailing experience ( except for long blue water passages that required watch experience) just if you have the willingness to participate and learn we are happy to teach you. Expectations of the crew are sharing everyday jobs on the boat from cooking and keeping the boat tidy, keeping watch (especially when night sailing) but most of all enjoying the experience of sailing, new experiences, beautiful sunsets, lots of laughs and willing to share great times with us.
Yes it is a clothes optional boat. This means you must be comfortable with others onboard being naked.
We do not have a timetable (sailing requires flexibility as is dependent on weather conditions) and sometimes you find a place that you simply just want to spend more time in. We prefer to travel off the beaten track, exploring places where there are less tourists and allowing us time to spend meeting the locals especially in the outer islands of the destinations we travel to. We spend as little time as possible in tourist places and marinas.
