Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Hi there, my name’s Wayne. I’m the owner of a 50 ft Aluminium cutter. This boat is all about cruising in warm places preferably with great diving, interesting local sights and food, and friends both aboard and on other boats.
I’ve been sailing since I was a kid and I’ve completed three Pacific crossings and many other passages as skipper. I’m much more interested in a safe comfortable passage than I am in speed, so I’ll probably never win a race.
I prefer quiet remote anchorages with clear water over marinas.
Shouting is never allowed onboard, even by me, unless its necessary to be heard over wind or other noise.
Safety is the always the first concern. I've sailed various boats about 50,000 miles and the most significant injury for anyone, was a broken finger while at anchor.

Update March 2025. I've moved my Seychelles departure date to Mid-May and have a crew joining me for the leg to Madagascar. The plan now is to be in Nosy Be (northern Madagascar) on June the 7th, where that crew member will leave the boat.

I'll take my time visiting many of the bays and villages along the Northern half of Madagascar's West coast and then make short stops at a couple of the French Islands in the Mozambique channel, with a plan to arrive in Durban around July 15. This is the good weather period for this area and I'm expecting sunny days, fish jumping onboard and beam reaches the whole way ;). If you would like to crew on this passage, let me know.

Update February 2025. We arrived in Seychelles on February 22 after a quiet and enjoyable passage of 22 days from Malaysia. I'll be here with friends and family visiting until late April then heading for Durban on the East Coast of South Africa. I'm planning a route that includes around 10 islands plus a number of stops on Madagascar. There are some spectacular and little visited islands on this path , Madagascar is spectacular and the weather should be excellent with the SE trades starting up around the time I leave. This should be about 15 days of sailing but with stops I'm planning to take 4 to 6 weeks.

I plan to be in Durban for a few months then in December I'll head for Cape Town (one to two weeks) and from there for the Caribbean, with possibly a stop at St Helena Island and possibly one Brazilian Island(around 40 days total). This longer passage will only be available for people that I have previously met, so if its of interest some pre-planning will be necessary.

If you are interested in any of these passages let me know and we can discuss. I'm much more likely to respond if you write something more complete than a simple wave.

What is expected of the crew

clean & tidycommitteddiligenteasy-goingenthusiasticfit & healthyfriendlyrarely/unlikely seasicktravel light (little luggage)can pay own expenseswill not bring a bicyclewill not bring a friendwill not bring a pet

The main requirements are a cheerful, enthusiastic attitude and respect for the safety of everyone onboard.
I don’t really care whether you have a lot of experience or very little, but I prefer that you have spent at least some time on boats.
Standing watch will be a requirement on passages. This will essentially mean being able to stay awake for a few hours at a time to watch for ships or other dangers and to call me if there is ever any question.
Crew will have to participate in boat chores, including a share of the cooking, cleaning and provisioning work.
Crew are responsible for costs of travel to and from the boat, including visas.
