Dear Shipmates

Introduction

I am from Canada, Riccardo Jr is born in Colombia, and Maddalena is from Italy.. she is fluent in Italian, Spanish, and very good English.. Ricci is learning all 3 languages simultaneously.

After 30 years living on sailboats I can generally troubleshoot and fix most anything (diesel, electrical, plumbing, etc), and for many years offered adventure charters and courses onboard for individuals and couples that wanted to learn first hand the sailing and liveaboard lifestyle. Maddalena is a professional chef by trade, having spent her past few years running restaurants in Italy, Panama, and Mexico.

Ideally, we would potentially like to find a mid-to-long-term couple for extended travels that is already on this path and hoping to buy their own boat in the future. We can work with any levels of previous experience as long as they would enjoy working with all aspects of life aboard including maintenance, repairs, sailing, cooking, cleaning, navigating, doing watches, etc. Single female crew can be considered, but we have had enough problems with single male crew to know it is almost never a good fit for us.

We typically invite crew aboard for a shorter starting period to assess compatibility onboard, and can then discuss further from there if things are good for all involved. During this starting period, crew would be expected to contribute to the costs of having them onboard, including their own food, drinks, immigration fees, etc. we look after all boat expenses on our own.

If you are not experienced and want to learn, we offer courses on shorter excursions and then can determine if there is compatibility for a longer term stay as crew for more extended travels.

We are at the moment in Panama, with our 3-year old son, Riccardo Jr, onboard. Obviously this will have effect on what crew we sail with, so if you love kids, keep reading! :)

Myself, (Captain Rick) I have been personally been living onboard full time for over 19 years and can't even imagine going back to a land-based life. The boat is very open and airy, I love my plants and grow everything from Aloe to herbs... have over 20 plants onboard, so if you have a green thumb I'm sure you will find an enjoyable hobby in helping care for them!

I have my own editing studio onboard where I make sailing/travel videos of all our experiences for our Youtube audience that has grown to over 95,000,000 viewers this year. We earn our money to keep traveling with our sailing channel on Youtube, so hopefully you aren't camera shy or you might not like it here.. :)

My favorite thing is to venture into the heart of new places and find locals to interview that can tell stories of the past and the culture... that is the best part about making travel videos, learning about the places we visit and the people we meet.

The past few years have been spent converting and upgrading the boat to be fully self-sufficient for sustainable long-term travel. She has had an ongoing refit the past two years to the tune of almost $200,000, including a brand new Highfield 60hp dinghy, 3.2Kw of solar installed that satisfies all electrical needs with no need of having to run an engine or generator. The galley is fully electric with dual induction cooktops, new microwave, convection oven, Instapot, breadmaker, and has all the amenities of home, including a brand new solar-powered seawater desalinator. In addition, there is a household-type Reverse Osmosis purifier for consumable water that completely negates the need for purchasing bottled water in single-use plastics from shore. We have new sails, new diesel engine, new 5kw alternators for fast charging when needed.. a new 30kwh LifePo4 battery system, new electric system, all new RayMarine navigation and communications systems, etc etc etc. She wants for nothing and is ready for safe comfortable cruising wherever we decide to take her.

Ideally, if we can find a couple with long-term potential that between them enjoy working with all aspects of maintenance, cleaning, sailing etc then even better! For those interested in filming/camera work, I can certainly help teach some basics to practice from, and even some editing skills if desired. If you already have excellent video and editing skills then we may even have a job available for you!

I have well over 120,000 miles of sailing logged so far, and have done offshore sail training for years, as well as introduction to sailing, liveaboard skills, self sufficiency skills, off-grid living, navigation, engine, maintenance, electronics… there is not much that I haven’t been teaching onboard over the past 20 years.

PS... Even if you are only a closet smoker you will not be happy here... I can't live with people that smoke, even if you go outside, the smell of smoke on your person will be enough to flare my allergy... so please feel free to find a boat where smoking is welcome. :)

Cheers,
CaptainRick, Maddy, and Ricci
