Hello, My name is Joshua and I am an experienced sailor. I have sailed many passages and races on my own boats and on other boats. I have been both crew and captain, including sailing my own 26' cutter offshore from Florida to the Virgin Islands after the trades had set in, a journey of 18 days over rough seas. I served as 1st Mate on a Cal 35 cruising the Caribbean for six months. I have sailed the Mona passage multiple times. I have had my metal tested including being on a boat that was holed, getting pooped and losing electronics, enduring 30+ foot waves and high winds offshore, using plane sailing to navigate the Mona passage after losing electronics, being dropped, nearly run down by a cargo ship, dismasted during a race, and more. So, I am well aware of the perils of being at sea and safety is my priority. I am ideally seeking a trans pacific passage from Central America, but would consider a trans Atlantic passage. I know the importance of hierarchy at sea and supporting a Skipper's decisions to the best of my ability. I am a fit and capable team player. I have refit two of my own boats and am familiar with all systems aboard ship. I have decent mechanical skills, and excellent tool skills in general. Not long ago I pulled the motor on my Privateer 26 and replaced the gear box myself, replacing freeze plugs, rebuilding the water pump, and doing other maintanence with the motor on the sole of my boat. I have also rerigged, both standing and running rigging, multiple boats. I have much experience doing fiberglass work. I have been a fine woodworker professionally for 20+ years. Simply put, I am confident that I would be an asset to any crew. I have been living in the Virgin Islands for the past ten years and part of a very active sailing community. I also volunteered for the KATS program, teaching children how to sail. I have raced I.C 24s, larger keel boats, lasers, 420s, and Nacra 17s. I also won Foxy's wooden boat regatta with my 1934 gaff rigged cutter before that beautiful boat was lost to hurricane Irma. I have taken 1 year off from work to travel and have been in Europe for months and am yearning to go to sea. I am scuba certified and love to spearfish, and yes I can cook. When not sailing I enjoy playing guitar and singing, rock climbing, hiking, hunting and foraging, survival skills, traditional archery, poetry, reading, astronomy, deep conversation, surfing, traveling, and meditation.
