I started sailing at around 10 and have continued off and on throughout my life. The majority of my sailing experience has been inland and near shore with occasional offshore excursions. I am looking to log more off shore sea time as I near completion of my USCG captain's license.
I am pretty easy going and laid back and can typically "roll with the punches". Following a strict itinerary or just being spontaneous work fine for me. That does not mean I don't work hard when the time comes. I am a diligent hard worker.
Getting along with other people no matter how alike or different than me has never been an issue. Because I am retired, I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule. I can usually be on board anywhere in the United States with 3 days notice. I know how to get things done! Give me a task and I will see it through.
I'm a pretty good cook and happy to share cooking duties. Other hobbies are fly fishing, mountain biking, and rock climbing.
I'm very physically fit and quite agile so working on the deck, hauling lines and hoisting sails is not an issue . Probably my biggest contribution to any vessel, is my ability to repair or improvise just about anything. I am very mechanically gifted and have extensive institutional knowledge of how thing work. I truly understand almost everything mechanical. My friends and family sometimes refer to me as McGyver. I'm also very familiar with solar electric systems and have built several systems from scratch.
Night watches are not a problem for me.
I enjoy meeting and getting to know new people and exploring new areas. I think that I would make a welcome addition to most crews.
