Hello all,

After crossing the Atlantic in December and consequent Carribean sailing I backpacked/hitchhiked around South America finally arriving in Brazil where I am taking it easy and would like to get back on a sailing boat.

Below follows an introduction which has been on my profile a while and is slightly adapted to be relevant now.

My name is Jan, I'm from The Netherlands where I studied in Amsterdam. I finished my Bachelor degrees in Computer Science and Business Administration and was looking to start sailing and backpacking after that, I departed on the 29th of October and am still going!

I speak a number of languages reasonably well, following from previous and current travel to South America and because I had an Italian girlfriend :-). Additionally I am a capable cook, I have lived independently since I was 18.

I think a little further introduction is in place. Before I left I spent most my time finishing up my studies while I work for a startup as a (junior) software engineer. Furthermore I like to read, run, cycle (send me a message for my Strava ;-)) and practice calisthenics in my local outside gym. I really like playing board-games, usually with my house-mates or back home at my family. Also very much like a good game of chess. Whats more... I have ticked some boxes below regarding myself but written out I would describe myself as generally interested in a lot of topics and people, I like to travel, learn languages. Generally open for adventure.

Plans

Last summer I had studied full-time for four consecutive years, with an exchange to Brazil in between (which one could also interpret as studying ;-)), and hope to receive two Bachelor degrees. My plan was and is to take an undefined period of time off to travel abroad (until money or earning capability run out or my hands start itching too much to get back to productivity). A big part of the initial stage of the plan was sailing. I spent time in the summer in the Mediterranean getting more confident aboard and then joined as crew in a boat participating in an Atlantic crossing in the months after. We arrived in Grenada where we spent a month and I then continued on towards Panama on a different boat, with stops in Bonaire and Colombia. Afterwards I flew to Chile and have explored the southern countries thoroughly until I recently arrived in Brazil. I’d like to be back on the water for a few weeks, perhaps cruising a long the coast or exploring a certain area. I am generally quite flexible… I just miss sailing!

Why me?

-> Relatively good crewing experience, I have logged more than 3000 nm, many night shifts, logging, departure planning, helping in decision making etc.

-> German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese proficient to some extent

REGARDING COVID:

I am fully vaccinated against Covid and have a booster.
