Boats have been part of my life since a small child. I am now in a position with no ties and am looking to move from "dry Land" to the sea, so seek work at sea for the forseeable future.
I have many years experience as a part-time professional mariner both with power and sailing craft of differing sizes ( between 15 & 120 feet). I have made many long passages, including 2 Atlantic crossings, so am experienced at navigating/watchkeeping and the routine of long periods at sea. I also have first hand experience with refitting and maintenance of the boats I have skippered. This includes the supervision of tradesmen whilst onboard. My experience also extends to "Dive Support", RIBS & Personal Water Craft.
My past has been in Pre-Hospital emergency medicine (as a Paramedic) both on the road and latterly on the "Helicopter Emergency Medical System". I have a vast knowledge of emergency medical care, holding ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support, PHTLS-Pre-Hospital trauma Life Support, AMLS-Advanced Medical Life Support certifications and National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians registration.
I enjoy cooking and have a partnership in a bar in Portugal, so am happy to cook and act as a Steward.
I hold an MCA/RYA Yachtmaster (power level II) which is commercially endorsed and I have been working part time as a Charter Skipper/Steward on various vessels, including, Sealine S52, Pershing 50/80, Trader 75, Fairline Squadron 62 and a Cranchi Zaffira 34. I have also undertaken numerous power boat deliveries from Portugal to the UK, Netherlands and the Med'. I possess a good mechanical knowledge but do not hold any qualifications in this area.
I am looking to bring my medical and boating knowledge together, so am looking for employment as a Skipper/Deckhand/Steward/Medic/Manager aboard a superyacht, sailboat, research vessel or similar. I will consider anything legal. I can supply Criminal Record Bureau certificate and am happy to apply for any necessary visas.
I am confident, professional, trustworthy and discrete, giving 100% in all that I do.
I am currently skippering a 28m ex dive safari boat in Hurghada, Egypt but this will end on the 20 July 2010 as the boat has been sold.
My hobbies include diving, sea fishing, horse-riding, cooking, and amateur radio.
I speak Portuguese and a little Spanish
