I started sailing in 1978 and finally reached the USA in 1981, where I started working on the larger private yachts as engineer. In 1984 I was promoted to Capt. of a 30m ketch "Astral". Since then, have sailed many thousands of miles on a number of vessels, ranging from 10 to 45m – sailing was my profession. In 1993/1994 I returned to South Africa to witness the belated birth of democracy and was encouraged to stay a while. With accumulated savings I ventured into property development and by early 1998 I was looking for the next adventure. A fellow crew member on a race boat dragged me down to the boat yard that built the boat, a Robertson and Caine Leopard 45, and a week later I signed the contract. Never once, in my wildest dreams did owning a boat feature. the boat was launched in Cape Town in Oct 1998 and thats where this journey started....

The boat is finally back in the water after undergoing a fairly extensive 16 month refit. The trip to Fiji, current location, was uneventful, aside form a spinnaker blow out. (One down - two to go!) All the work carried out during the refit has performed perfectly and with a lively sail up from New Zealand, the nightmare of the boat yard is beginning to fade. She has always been professionally maintained. All the safety equipment was replaced new as of 15 May 2010. This upgrade included 8 person Offshore life raft, GPS enabled 406 EPIRB, Offshore flare kit, life jackets and fire extinguishers.
The position aboard would really suit a dive enthusiast (not essential) as the boat has a compressor and all associated equipment. There are also 2 kayaks, snorkeling gear, heaps of fishing stuff and a large pool.
The opportunity is open to both genders, however my preference would be for a female crew. I am not looking for a relationship other than companionship and friendship based on mutual respect. I am looking for a team member who will assist in the day to day running of the boat ensuring that the boat remains a safe and comfortable platform from which to experience and enjoy the ocean.
The plan is to sail and dive Fiji, spending two to four weeks in the Lau Group. The islands in this group suffered considerable damage form Tropical Storm Thomas in March this year and there are heaps of things on board that would be useful to the islanders while lighten the boat. Anyway the idea is to lend a hand.
From Fiji to Vanuatu, New Caledonia arriving in Australia mid November....
